Study Animation & VFX


If you dream of a career as a Games Developer, 3D Modelling Artist, Video Game Artist, FX Artist, or Art Director, the Animation & VFX course is for you.

In the CG Animation & VFX course, you will undertake fundamental units such as 3D art and computer graphics, modelling and animation skills, film production, game design theory, and business entrepreneurship.

Enjoy the flexibility of studying online or on-campus while being mentored by industry experts and learn the skills they’ve obtained working at renowned studios.

If you have family, work or other commitments that prevent you from attending on-campus, you can study this course online. Take your lectures and classes online with the same industry teachers, same facility and services access, and opportunities to connect with your peers via school-wide online events.

Overseas or interstate borders are no longer obstacles in the digital world: tailor your study to best suit your own learning modes and lifestyle, whether that means catching up on lectures after a busy work shift or taking in the course materials at your own pace.

Collarts offers students a variety of real-life industry experiences so that they are career-ready when they graduate. Through our industry partnerships, you will have opportunities to partake in a variety of real-world business experiences, gaining access to industry connections.

You will graduate with specialised training and experience in the animation industry, both in Australia and internationally.

Tim Westhaven
Tim Westhaven is the Program Leader of CG Animation & VFX. Tim played his first game of Dungeons and Dragons aged 6 and by age 8 he was running a gaming group at school and attended his first games convention. By age 12 he was designing his own game systems, creating worlds and programming computer games. From there, he went on to work in graphic design, advertising, publishing, games and media. He undertook postgraduate studies in animation at Central Saint Martins college in London after which he worked as a technical director for Jim Henson’s creature workshop, Meteor studios in Montreal and Framestore London, where he was a member of the Academy Award and BAFTA-winning VFX team for The Golden Compass. To date, he has worked on many films, including Batman Begins, Final Destination and The Tale of Despereaux.
